Trading as King & Queen Chess Club and Crown Chess Academy — Queensland's most trusted and successful junior chess program since 2017.
Focused · Professional · Devoted · Full-time
Our Story
King & Queen Chess Club was founded in 2017 with a clear mission: to be the most trusted and preferred chess learning destination for junior players in Queensland — starting in the Chinese-Australian community and expanding to serve all families across Brisbane.
What began as a single campus has grown into a network of 6 locations across Queensland, with school programs at BCLS Redeemer, BCLS Calamvale, BCLS Indooroopilly, and Warrigal Road State School.
Today, operating as both King & Queen Chess Club (KQCC) and Crown Chess Academy, we have produced WCM, CM, and FM/WFM on condition FIDE-titled players, multiple Australian champions, Oceania Youth champions, and students who have represented Australia at the FIDE World Cadets and World Youth Championships.
"Chess is the touchstone of intellect — 国际象棋是智慧的试金石"
— Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
Our Foundation
To nurture every junior chess player from their very first move — focusing on chess education from a young age, from zero experience, and accompanying each child as they grow and flourish through the game.
To build a platform and pathway for students who have a deep passion for chess and want to go as far as their talent and dedication will take them — representing Queensland, Australia, and competing on the world stage.
Happy learning and growing. We watch every child develop with joy, track each student's progress, provide timely guidance, and give our students the biggest, best stages and resources possible.
Educational Philosophy
At KQCC / Crown Chess Academy, we believe every child deserves access to the most systematic and professional chess education available. Our coaches are not only highly knowledgeable — they are experienced educators with a genuine passion for developing young players.
We pioneered the one-stop-solution model in Queensland. With the same cost as one other typical extracurricular activity, students can receive 4.5+ hours of elite chess education per week, covering foundation classes, IM-conducted practical training, GM-level theory session and rated tournament experience.
"Without the element of enjoyment, it is not worth trying to excel at anything!"
— Magnus Carlsen
Foundation Classes (1.5 hrs)
Structured curriculum covering rules, tactics, openings, and endgames — tailored to each level from beginner to advanced.
IM-conducted practical training (min. 2 hrs)
International master trainging lesson first and then rated/practice games followed by IM-level analysis — the fastest way to identify and fix weaknesses.
GM-Level Theory (1 hr)
Advanced theoretical sessions drawing on grandmaster-level knowledge to develop deep positional understanding.
Junior Championship Tournaments
Four terms of FIDE Rapid/ACF Quick/QJ rated tournaments per year, plus preparation and support for QLD, Australian, and Oceania & World events.
JETS Elite Training Selection
Many of our students are selected annually for the Queensland/Australia JETS elite training program — a testament to the quality of our coaching.
Community Recognition
Our tournaments and club activities have been recognised and visited by Queensland community leaders including Senator James McGrath and Councillor Steven Huang — a testament to the positive impact chess has on our community.
We have driven the growth of chess programs at multiple schools and received strong support from the principals of these traditionally high-achieving academic schools, such as Sunnybank Hills State School, MacGregor State School, Warrigal Road State School and Anglican Church Grammar School etc. Even in some state schools, deputy principals are assigned to oversee the chess programs.
We are proud to have co-hosted the 2021 Queensland Junior Chess Championships and to have been a driving force in growing chess participation across Queensland's diverse communities.
